Minis and pygmies are both excellent breeds especially for pet owners but you will normally find that the pygmies still cost more to purchase as pets than the minis, this is because it costs pygmy breeders a lot of money to buy their breeding stock because they haven't been in Australia for very long. 

Pygmy goat genetics were brought into Australia frpm breeders importing semen  & embryos from the United States and have been bred up by crossing them with Australian Miniatures initailly

 This is why you will often see a pygmy listed for sale with its percentage. EG: 40% Pygmy means it is also 60% something else but most of the time they are crossed with the minis. 

The higher percentage the pygmy is the more it costs to buy.

fullblood Pygmys are now available to purchase in Australia, 

but are at a premium cost.
